My works are basically an investigation into the idea of what constitutes the idea of architecture in history. I arrived at this series of works as an investigation of our fundamental human behavior to build. For me architecture is more about the process of how something is built and not just the end resultant. It’s in understanding the process of building something; I realized the importance of human labour. Hailing from a family of masons, the fascination for building something was always what I knew. But while we see the buildings and structures we see the complete absence of the labour. I try to retrieve this collective labour which is erased within the meanings attributed/ appropriated after. For me any architecture is a monument memorializing the forgotten labour which defines our inhabitations. However though hidden it’s in the process of retrieval of those, I rebuild an entirely new architecture recognizing, realizing and marking materially the labour involved in its making. My interest in the interior also stems from the understanding that the exterior always hides the truth. The thick walls the decorated surfaces and effects actually hide the real inside. So my interest has always been in understanding what is inside.It is in this process of building up of little marks on the surface the entire surface and space is defined by the infusion of the ‘presence’ or the ‘beingness’.
