The famous Chinese proverb becomes a metaphor that celebrates the ethos of all communities ultimately being one even though we are defined and divided by geographical and climatic boundaries and gradations of wealth.This show becomes a study of the power of figurative works for the essence of beauty, sunlight and silence that stream out from the canvasses of Binoy Varghese .

 

 

When he travels to different places-East or West bound, Binoy goes beyond being a foreign artist, those of us who know his work are aware that he has built his life and artistic career around the articulation of beauty in a tropical/cultural paradise. 

 

 

Here are recollections and reflections of girls/boys/women at leisure  in the  ; women and children at the Taj Mahal; women in the marketplace or  women  in the garden picking flowers or making offerings. Added to that are images of little children specially boys in the attire of yellowed monk robes initiated for a journey in another realm. Amongst these themes, the image of the tree with yellowed leaves and bronze skinned women standing underneath is one of the most iconic and enduring in his oeuvre. 

 

 

Lush places in gardens anywhere in the world are shown in his signature style: abundant flowers and foliage on branches in shades of strong colours become a  palette he has  evolved during his artistic career that spans more than two decades. Binoy’s early  paintings were dominated by different shades of pink, yellow, beige and even white. At times, his earlier works were in soft, pale tones with an orange tint. Here in these works he uses more green and ochre .

 

People and places, different castes and creed ,everything combines into a confluence of communities that celebrate above all the beauty of the human spirit.
